Developing Leader All Star Honoree - Katie Brueske, Cushman & Wakefield l Boerke

Name/Title/Company: Katie Brueske / Real Estate Advisor / Cushman & Wakefield l Boerke

Briefly tell us what you do, and length of time in the CRE industryI specialize in office tenant and landlord representation. I've been in the industry for 5 years.

Number of Years in NAIOP Wisconsin?: 1 year.

What project or professional or personal accomplishment are you most proud of?: One of my proudest professional accomplishments is successfully transitioning into the commercial real estate industry right when COVID began and quickly establishing myself as a trusted advisor in the field. Personally, I'm proud of my ability to adapt and thrive despite the challenges COVID brought to the industry and the office market specifically. A personal accomplishment I’m particularly proud of is playing Division I lacrosse at Mercer University in Georgia. Competing at the highest collegiate level was both challenging and rewarding, and it taught me valuable lessons in discipline, teamwork, and resilience. The experience pushed me to excel both athletically and personally, fostering a strong work ethic and leadership skills that have continued to benefit me in all areas of my life.

Where did you grow up, go to high school or college?: I lived in 12 states before moving to Wisconsin during high school, where I attended Kettle Moraine. I continued my education and athletic career by playing lacrosse at Mercer University in Georgia and graduated with a business degree. After graduation, I worked in a sales role in Georgia and returned to Milwaukee in late 2019 to begin a new chapter in the commercial real estate industry. I now live in Milwaukee with my fiancé, who is also from the Milwaukee area.

Who introduced you to NAIOP Wisconsin and how has the DL All Star program contributed to your success in the industry as a young professional?: I was introduced to NAIOP and the DL All Star Program by my colleague, Cody Ziegler. The program provided mentorship opportunities and access to lunch-and-learns on a wide range of topics, giving me a well-rounded knowledge of the commercial real estate industry. It also gave me the chance to network with some developers, landlords, and other professionals I don't typically interact with in the office sector. This exposure has allowed me to build valuable relationships, gain new insights, and expand my perspective, all of which have directly contributed to my success and growth in the industry.

What advice would you give today, to you five years ago?If I could give advice to my 5-years-ago self, I would remind myself to embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow. Starting in commercial real estate during a time of uncertainty was tough, but I learned that perseverance and adaptability are key to success. I would also encourage myself to build relationships outside my immediate circle—those connections have been invaluable in opening doors and providing fresh perspectives.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?: In 10 years, I see myself as a trusted advisor in the commercial real estate industry and potentially a partner at the firm. I aim to have expanded my expertise across multiple sectors, building knowledge in other areas of the commercial real estate industry. I want to be seen as a leader who not only helps clients navigate complex real estate decisions but also mentors younger professionals, guiding them to success. Lastly, I hope to build a clientele base with women in leadership and work with women-led businesses.

What is one thing you can't live without?: One thing I can't live without is my coffee!

Favorite brunch spot?: Blue's Egg.

Favorite vacation spot?: The Dolomites were the best mountain vacation and Costa Rica was the best beach vacation.
