New Member Spotlight - Jimsi Kuborn, City of Janesville
Name/Title/Company: Jimsi Kuborn, Economic Development Director, City of Janesville
Briefly tell us what you do, and length of time in the CRE industry: Over 20 years of experience in the commercial real estate and economic development industry. I began my career in real estate in the early 2000s and transitioned to economic development in 2013 with the Rockford Area Economic Development Council. Since then, I have led initiatives in multiple communities, including Converse, TX, where I revitalized a rapidly growing city's economic development organization. For the past three years, I have served as the Economic Development Director for the City of Janesville, WI, where I have overseen the creation of four new Tax Incremental Districts, securing over $12 million in TIF incentives, and managed projects totaling approximately $100 million in capital investment—including the development of a new 132-acre industrial park and redevelopment planning for the 250 acres of the former General Motors brownfield site.
What project or professional accomplishment are you most proud of?: What I’m most proud of in my work is helping existing businesses expand and thrive. Supporting local employers as they grow—whether through planning, incentives, or navigating development processes—directly strengthens the community. It’s incredibly fulfilling to build relationships with businesses and play a role in their continued success, knowing that their growth means more jobs, investment, and long-term stability for the community.
How would you like to be more involved in NAIOP Wisconsin?: Being a member will enable me to tap into the statewide (and nationwide) network of commercial real estate developers, owners, and investors. Look to participate in educational events, advocacy efforts, and leadership development programs. Also, look for opportunities to attend networking events and connect with other professionals in the industry. Getting engaged through NAIOP would not only help me stay informed on key issues impacting development in Wisconsin, but also allow me to grow my influence and relationships in the field.
Tell us about your family: My significant other, Chris, and I live in Janesville. We enjoy attending many community events in Janesville, and having dinner at our favorite local restaurants. We both enjoy travel from exploring different states to different countries. All great perspective to enjoying home.
What's something about you most people don't know?: My first name came to my father in a dream, and his name is David, not Jim.
What's your favorite vacation destination?: Cinque Terre - drop me here to hide out and relax anytime.
What is your favorite restaurant, and why?: Favorite restaurant ever - Sister's Thai. Amazing flavors and being treated like family.
